Welcome to my page! I'm Ryan Thatcher, a communications major at Old Dominion University with a passion for journalism! I've worked in amateur and collegiate level newsrooms as well as done freelance photography since I was 14 years old. I'm a big football fan (go Ravens!) and I can't live without music.

Copy Editor (unprofessionally)
Proofreads, edits, and formats both print and digital newspaper issues at the collegiate level. Works with the staff in a collaborative manner to ensure a smooth writing and publication process for the newspaper.

Provides a tailored fine dining experience for both restaurant customers and large-scale events, including corporate banquets, weddings, bat mitzvahs, and more. Builds interpersonal relationships with returning customers.

Managing Editor (unprofessionally)
Oversees the editorial staff alongside the editor-in-chief and assists staff members with writing and editing at the amateur level. Managing editors also utilize interpersonal communication to encourage the development of positive relationships between staff members and ensure a seamless publication process.

Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Lifespan Communications. Relevant coursework includes media studies, organizational communication, and nonverbal communication. Anticipating to graduate in May of 2025 and attend a graduate program to earn a master's degree.

Obtained my associate degree in communications in May of 2023. Relevant coursework includes various levels of interpersonal communication, psychology of communication, intercultural communication, and digital media.

Chatham University
Communications Major
Attended Chatham University (Pittsburgh, PA) for one year. Played Division III lacrosse on an academic scholarship and served as a copy editor for the university newspaper. Relevant coursework includes journalism, intercultural communication, and digital media.

Patriot High School
Advanced High School Diploma
Obtained an advanced high school diploma from Patriot High School in June of 2020. Member of the lacrosse team (two years on junior varsity, two years on varsity). Spent all four years as a member of the school newspaper, serving as a copy editor from 2016 to 2018, as well as the managing editor from 2018 to 2020.
